RJ 45 Vs. RJ 11

Introduction

The full form of RJ is Registered Jack. This type of jack was initially used for telephone communications. With the help of it, we can connect one device to another easily.

RJ Jacks connects 2 devices with the help of female RJ jacks. For example, Figure -2 is the example of female jack and the Figure -1 is Male RJ jacks. The Figure - 2 is the normal router of home use, where RJ 11 and RJ 45 female jacks are given. In the early day of Internet connectivity, RJ 11 was also used for Internet connection. RJ 11 was used for ADSL internet connection whereas, the RJ 45 is using computer to other devices with Local Area Network (LAN) ports.

Now I'm showing you the difference between RJ 45 and RJ11 as below;

• RJ45

RJ45 connects mostly computer to a Local Area Network. This was used to connects communication devices but now it is used for various applications. It has 8 pins. RJ 45 can used for Security cameras, router, modem, smart TV, Gaming console etc.

• RJ11

The registered jack 11 (RJ11) is a type of connector commonly used for telephone cables. It has four or six pins and is used to connect phones. It connects landline to modem to get Internet, PABX to many phone set etc...

Figure -7 is Female Jack for RJ 11.

 

What is the difference between RJ45 and RJ11

RJ 45 is used for Computer and other devices and RJ11 is used for Phone connection. RJ 45 has 8 pins and RJ 11 has 6 pins. RJ 45 is a bit bigger than RJ 11.  If we are connecting a phone or modem, we will likely need an RJ11 cable. If we are connecting a computer or other device to a network, we will need RJ45 cable. 

The main difference between an RJ11 and a registered jack 45 (RJ45) connector is the number of conductors they support. RJ11 connectors typically support up to 4 conductors (2 pairs of wires), which are commonly used for telephone and modem connections. On the other hand, RJ45 connectors support up to 8 conductors (4 pairs of wires) and are used for Computer and other devices.
